You have to drive your RV or drive the vehicle that tows your RV to whatever destination. Every RV involves driving—you just cannot avoid or escape this aspect of RVing.
So, you will be forced to suddenly control and maneuver a large vehicle. You can be driving a 45-foot-long RV and towing a Hummer (or any large vehicle). Your overall length—going down the highway (or through a crowded Wal-Mart parking lot)—could be close to 70-feet-long! You instantly become a “big rig.”
Let me be blunt here… To assume you know all about driving a big rig safely just because you have driven a gazillion miles in a car/pickup, is a really stupid mistake! Sorry if I have hurt your tender feelings but that’s the way it is. I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say that you likely don’t even know how to set your mirrors correctly.
There are hints and tricks to driving a big rig efficiently, effectively, and safely that you need to know. So, two strong recommendations…
- Read the information in this Topic and try the exercises. You will have fun, learn things about your RV that you did not know, be a safer driver, and be able to maneuver your RV in ways not possible before now. Can’t hurt!
- Take some professional driving instruction. Some is free. Some will cost you. Both are great.
